France have suffered a major setback ahead of their World Cup play-off with Ireland as Franck Riberby has found out he will be out for another month.

The talismanic Bayern Munich schemer has been suffering with tendinitis in his left knee and missed Wednesday night’s Champions League defeat to Bordeaux as a result.

L’Equipe is reporting Ribery went to see a knee specialist this week and that the diagnosis ruled him out of next month’s play-offs.

Ribery’s club coach Louis Van Gaal said: “We want to help him recover from this injury.

“But I can’t tell you how long he will be sidelined. It could last one month, but it’s not for sure.”
