Argetinian playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme has agreed a deal with Villarreal to move to Boca Juniors.

The two clubs had initially agreed a deal on Wednesday, but the player himself had not agreed to it.

The transfer fee is expected to be about €9million, according to sources close to the Argentinian club.

A statement on Villarreal’s club internet site said: “After Riquelme and Villarreal reached agreement, Villarreal managing director Jose Manuel Llaneza and financial director Miguel Perez will today (Monday) go to Argentina to negotiate a transfer with Boca Juniors.”

After falling out of favour with Villarreal coach Manuel Pellegrini, Riquelme joined Boca on loan last season and helped them to success in the Copa Libertadores. However, he has yet to play since returning to Spain at the start of the season and was expected to leave in the January transfer window.
