Milan have confirmed they are releasing Brazilian World Cup winner Rivaldo from his contract.

The former Barcelona player is now free to find a new club when the transfer window reopens in January.

“We thank Rivaldo for the contribution he gave to the winning of the Champions League, the Italian Cup and the European Super Cup and wish him all our luck for the continuation of his extraordinary career,” read a statement from Milan.

Rivaldo has featured just once in the first team since this season.

The Brazilian is now eyeing a move to England with Chjelsea his preferred destination. Ê Ê

“Now I would be very happy to play for Chelsea,” he told the News of the World.

“They have a man in charge of them who has come from outside of England and he’s buying the best, most exciting players in the world.

“It is as though Roman Abramovich is running an NBA all-star team. He has turned Chelsea into a side with a unique style, unlike any other team in England.

“Now I am hoping there will be a surprise in a month. It will come before January, I can tell you that.”
