Arjen Robben will be fit to play against Denmark in Holland’s World Cup opener, according to the physiotherapist treating him.

The Bayern Munich winger suffered a hamstring injury in a pre-tournament friendly and Holland coach Bert van Marwijk had already stated that he would not be fit for Monday’s match in Johannesburg.

But Dick van Toorn told TZ that Robben is ready to go. “I think that he can play,” he said. “If they do not play him for tactical reasons, okay, but you cannot say he would not be fit.”

The 26-year-old stayed behind when the rest of the squad left for South Africa to continue intensive treatment from Van Toorn.

“It depends on the coach,” Van Toorn said when asked about Robben’s availability..

“He has a different opinion than I do. He thinks that a player should not play in pain, because he has missed a few training sessions.

“But I say ‘fit is fit’ If Arjen feels no more pain, then he is fit. And then he must play.”
