West Ham are awaiting news on the condition of manager Glenn Roeder who was taken to hospital after complaining of chest pains following the club’s 1-0 home win against Middlesbrough.
Roeder collapsed after the victory over Boro which gives the club a glimmer of hope of avoiding relegation from the Premiership.
Club spokesman Peter Stewart said: ‘Glenn suddenly collapsed after the game with chest pains. The doctor was in attendance and he was taken to hospital.
‘He has been having scans and tests and he is in a stable condition and we are all awaiting the results.’
Roeder attended the post-match press conference after the win over Middlesbrough and appeared in good spirits, but an hour after the game he began feeling unwell and was taken to hospital.
The club’s website, www.whufc.com, issued a statement confirming Roeder had been taken ill, adding: ‘The thoughts of everyone at the club are of course with Glenn, his wife Faith, and his family.’
Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier who underwent emergency heart surgery 18 months ago, passed on his best wishes to Roeder.
“Glenn is a very dignified man and I hope he makes a very quick recovery,’ said Houllier.
“I like Glenn as a man and as a manager. He has always remained dignified and decent, despite the pressures of a very difficult season.
“He is a manager who has always supported his players, which I like, and the players can help Glenn now by winning matches. This will help him feel a lot better.
“I have had the opportunity to speak to Glenn on the phone during the season and I send him my very best wishes and hope he is well again soon.”
