Roma have been fined €8,000 for racist abuse their fans directed at Inter’s teenage striker Mario Balotelli at the San Siro on Sunday.
“On two occasions in the second half Roma supporters sang chants featuring expressions of racial discrimination towards a player of the opposite team,” the Italian league said in a statement on their website (www.lega-calcio.it).
The 18-year-old scored twice in the second half to help Serie A leaders Inter come from 2-0 and 3-1 down to earn a 3-3 draw.
Roma coach Luciano Spalletti and midfielder Daniele De Rossi accused Balotelli of diving to win the penalty he scored for his second goal.
Spalletti has been given a one-match touchline ban for using “insulting, provocative expressions” when complaining about how the match was refereed to the fourth official after the final whistle.Subscribe today to World Soccer Magazine - The unrivalled authority on the game of soccer
