Roma have confirmed that they are still interested in signing Real Madrid’s out-of-favour striker Fernando Morientes.

The Serie A club, along with several other European teams, most notably Tottenham Hotspur, have been linked with the Spanish international since the summer.

“We have met Morientes and it is a situation we are currently thinking about,” explained Roma president Franco Sensi.

“But before we go any further we want to know how much Real Madrid want for him and what his personal demands are.”

“He is a good player and there is a good chance that we will be looking to sign him,” Sensi added.

News of Roma’s interest will come as a blow to Tottenham, who had been hoping to arrange a loan deal with the player until the end of the season.

Roma are also reported to be interested Brescia’s highly-rated defender Gilberto Vidal Martinez.
