Brazilian legend Romario has taken over as temporary coach of Vasco da Gama following the resignation of Celso Roth.

The 41-year-old Romario, a member of Brazil’s 1994 World Cup winning team, has not played for the club for several weeks, but on Monday started his new role by taking training.

Club president Eurico Miranda said: “He (Romario) will lead the team for this match (Wednesday against Mexican club America in the South American Cup), but I would like to say very clearly that, whatever the result, we will be looking for a new coach on Thursday.”
