Ronaldinho’s agent has discounted the possibility of the Brazilian leaving Barcelona in the January transfer window.

Chelsea are long-term admirers of the former World Player of the Year and had hoped to lure him to London.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was reportedly prepared to offer £50million to sign the 27-year-old, however, his attempt appears destined to fail.

Ronaldinho’s agent and brother, Roberto de Assis, has ruled out his brother departing Barca in the New Year.

“It is completely out of the question that Ronaldinho will go in the middle of the season,” Assis told the News of the World.

“There is no reason to think Ronaldinho’s future is away from Barcelona.

Ronaldinho has another two-and-a-half years to run, but he is also interested in penning an extension.

“My brother has a contract with Barcelona until 2010 and he is interested in seeing it out and, if possible, extending it.”
