Cristiano Ronaldo admitted he had realised a dream he was paraded by Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu.

The £80million world record capture from Manchester United was given the warmest of welcomes by 80,000 fans in the Spanish capital.

“I am just so happy to be here,” said Ronaldo.

“For me, I have made my childhood dream a reality, which was nothing less than playing for Real Madrid.

“I didn’t expect a jam-packed stadium – this is truly impressive.”

Prior to Ronaldo’s highly-anticipated entrance, president Florentino Perez expressed his delight that the World and European Player of the Year chose to sign a six-year deal.

“We are very satisfied to know that you made the firm decision to play for Real Madrid,” Perez said.

He told Ronaldo what to expect from his new adoring fans, adding: “They will ask of you the very best, but will also give you their all.”

The Portuguese forward, who has been handed the number nine jersey, was greeted by Alfredo di Stefano – considered the greatest player to have worn that particular shirt – Eusebio and Perez.

Special football
Ronaldo enjoyed his time in england, but the Portugal winger is looking forward to the fresh challenge of La Liga.

“The Premier League is a very tough league. It’s physical. You have to be strong and fast. The football is too quick there,” he said.

“I think here is different. The small teams have quality players as well. They are not scared to play. I think it’s a special football here in La Liga.

“I hope to do better than I did in Manchester. I’m looking forward and I’m very confident I can achieve that.

“When you play for a big team there’s pressure on your back. I have pressure. It’s not a problem. I’m still confident.

“I think I’m at the right club to keep progressing in my career. I’m very focused to do a good job and to show the people that I’m a good player.”
