Ronaldo admits his place in the Brazil team is under threat after they won the Confederations Cup without him.

Inter striker Adriano, who stood in for Ronaldo, was the tournament’s leading scorer with five goals including one in the final in Brazil’s comfortable 4-1 win over Argentina.

“The coach said that my place in the side is guaranteed but I don’t think it works that way,” said Ronaldo.

“I know that if I don’t score goals he won’t pick me. But I did what I thought was right which was to have a holiday.

“I wanted to give priority to preparing for the World Cup next year.

“I want to prepare very well so I get to the end of the season without any physical problems. I want it to be the year of my life.”
