Argentina coach Diego Maradona has confirmed that Walter Samuel will definitely make his World Cup squad.

Inter centre-half Samuel has been told he will travel to South Africa, despite not playing for his country since Maradona was appointed in December 2008.

“Samuel is going to be on the list of players that will travel to South Africa,” admitted Maradona.

“I have spoken with (Inter boss Jose) Mourinho and he has told me that he will have Samuel in top shape.

“I have no doubts that he will be very important for my team.”

Samuel played in all three of Argentina’s games at the 2002 World Cup, but failed to make the cut in 2006.
