Wales midfielder Robbie Savage has announced his retirement from international football.

Savage, who hinted at retiring when John Toshack was appointed manager of Wales, has decided to concentrate on his club football with Blackburn Rovers.

The 30-year-old played 39 times for Wales, scoring two goals but with Wales languishing in the penultimate place in World Cup qualifying Group Six, he may have felt that the opportunity to represent his country in the finals of a major tournament had passed him by.
