Sevilla striker Javier Saviola is set to be out for a month after suffering an injury in his first training session of the New Year.

The Argentinian suffered a muscle strain in his left leg and is now expected to miss the next eight league and cup matches.

It is the second serious injury that Saviola has suffered since joining Sevilla on loan from Barcelona.

However, despite the latest setback, Saviola remains confident of a quick return.

“I am not beginning the year but I am optimistic about my recuperation,” said Saviola.
