Real Madrid manager Bernd Schuster has been given a vote of confidence by the club’s board.

Speculation indicated that Real were ready to fire the former Getafe boss following an erratic start to the season.

Sporting director Predrag Mijatovic scheduled a press conference in the Spanish capital on Monday evening where local media predicted the end of Schuster’s reign.

But Mijatovic insists the German continues to enjoy the full support of the Bernabeu hierarchy and the Real squad.

“My obligation as sporting director is to transmit to our fans a sense of tranquillity, serenity and calm,” he said.

“Now it is necessary to trust that we have a solid project, that we have great players who are able to improve and can obtain the objectives that we have.

“The club have complete confidence in the players and the coaching staff.

“We took a tough decision to get rid of Fabio Capello and bring in Bernd Schuster a year ago and we were proved right as he had a great campaign to win the league title. We continue to be happy with his work and the players we have.

“We have one of the best squads in Europe and we are confident we can still achieve at least one of our objectives for this season.

Defender Pepe, midfielders Arjen Robben, Ruben de la Red and Mahamadou Diarra are all sidelined and Mijatovic called for patience.

“We are looking at reinforcements for attacking midfield and striking positions and I am sure we can land someone be it in January or at the end of the season,” he added.

Real are fourth in the standings, five points behind leaders and arch-rivals Barcelona after 11 matches and lie second in Champions League Group H behind Juventus, with six points from four games.
