Bayern Munich and Germany international midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has been questioned by police looking into claims of match fixing in German football, according to the Munich newspaper tz.

Schweinsteiger and two players from second division club TSV 1860 Munich, Quido Lanzaat and Paul Agostino, had been questioned, the newspaper will report in its Friday edition.

Prosecutors refused to comment on the claim. They confirmed yesterday that they were studying a media report that several Bundesliga players, including a German international, might be involved in the scandal.

Four people were arrested last week after an investigation by Frankfurt prosecutors into alleged match-rigging in the second division and regional league.
