Striker El-Hadji Diouf believes that Senegal are capable of continuing their World Cup adventure after storming into the last 8 of the competition for the first time.

Speaking after Senegal overcame Sweden courtesy of an extra-time Golden Goal, Diouf highlighted the team spirit within the camp which, he says, will carry his country forward.

“We’ve shown again that we are a band of brothers, a band of friends, and we don’t want this to stop yet,” he said. “We have shown that we will fight to the end, and we will get there.”

“We have a heavy responsibility for Senegal, Africa and for France,” he added. “We represent everyone who loves and supports us and we will represent them with dignity.

“We knew that this would be a tough match, a match for warriors. We gave everything to win today.” Diouf insisted that victory would not go to the heads of the Senegal squad.

“Japan, Turkey, England, Germany, we respect everyone,” he said. “We will keep our place. We are still little Senegal and we will take things a game at a time.”
