Frenchman Guy Stephan has been offered the vacant post as coach of the Senegal national coach but no deal has yet been signed.

Senegalese football federation president Malick Sy met with Stephan at the weekend but a final decision would not be made before the middle of the month, officalls from the Senegalese Football Association confirmed.

Ironically, Stephan, a former coach of Lyon, and Bordeaux, was an assistant coach for France at the World Cup finals where Senegal upset the defending champions in Seoul in theopening match of the tournament.

He quit the French federation in August when newly-appointed France coach Jacques Santini brought in his own staff.

Senegal were led to the World Cup quarrter-finals by another Frenchman, Bruno Metsu, who left his post after the finals to take up a 10-month contract with Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates.
