Seven Premiership clubs are bidding to hold the UEFA Cup final in 2004 or 2005.

Aston Villa, Leeds United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Southampton and Sunderland hope to be chosen when UEFA announces the stadia for the next two finals.

The decision will be made at an executive committee meeting at then end of March, when the venues for the Champions League finals will also be decided.

Next season Manchester City will move into the City of Manchester stadium that held the Commonwealth Games.

Aston Villa hosted the last ever Cup Winners Cup final between Lazio and Real Mallorca in 1999. But, with Manchester United staging this year’s Champion’s League final, the English clubs may be overlooked by UEFA.

The 2003 UEFA Cup final will take place in Seville.
