Real Madrid have received a boost with the news that Wesley Sneijder’s injury is not as bad as initially feared.

The Dutch international was carried off during Real’s pre-season defeat to Arsenal on Sunday with damage to his left knee.

Real coach Bernd Schuster said after witnessing the incident: “It’s really tough. He’s in a lot of pain and we predict the worst.”

However, the Liga champions have confirmed that Sneijder will only be out for three months.

Sneijder will miss the start of the Primera Liga season and Real’s opening Champions League ties. He will also miss Holland’s first three 2010 World Cup qualifiers in Group 9 in September and October against Macedonia, Iceland and Norway.
