Albacete’s goaless draw earnt them their first point of the season but after Getafe’s win left them at the foot of the table.

Betis 2-1 Athletic Bilbao
Betis defender Juanito opened the scoring in the 37th minute only to be pegged back a minute later by Ismael Urzaiz. Fernando netted the second half winner for Real Betis to leave their Basque opposition with just two points from four matches so far this season.

Deportivo 1-5 Valencia
Champion’s Valencia completed a rout at the Riazor and continue to set the pace in La Liga.

Ten points and twelve goals in their opening four fixtures elevate Los Ches straight back to the top of the table, a point ahead of Real with Barcelona and Zaragoza both on seven points and with a game in hand.

Ranieri’s Italian summer signings Bernado Corradi and Marco Di Vaio opened the scoring with Spanish midfielders Vicente, Rufete and Baraja putting the game beyond doubt. Uruguayan striker Walter Pandiani hit back for Depor in the second half.

Deportivo languish in 15th position having conceded 10 goals in their opening four matches.

Getafe 1-0 Espanyol
Having beaten Real Madrid at the weekend, prompting Camacho to quit the Bernabeu, the Catalan side gifted Getafe their first ever points in top-flight football.

Ibarra’s early own goal was all that separated the teams and lifts Getafe out of the drop zone.

Levante 1-0 Athletico Madrid
Athletico Madrid spurned the opportunity to top La Liga , slumping to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Levante. Both teams are now tied on seven points thanks to a 20th minute Pizzaro penalty.

Malaga 4-1 Numancia
Miguel Angel and Paolo Wanchope were quick out of the blocks for Malaga both scoring in the opening ten minutes. Amoroso made it three nil before the interval to effectively kill off the game.

Juan Cruz Ochoa made the score sheet in the 67th minute for the visitors before Luque fired home Malaga’s fourth at the death.

Real Sociedad 0-1 Racing Santander
Regueiro scored the games only goal just before the interval lifting them to 12th in the table. Pierini’s red-card for two bookable offences was the only blemish on a good away win for Santander.

Villarreal 0-0 Sevilla
Villarreal and Sevilla played out a goaless draw to occupy 16th and 5th in the league respectively.

Barcelona entertain Zaragoza at Camp Nou tonight.
