Internazionale president Massimo Moratti has not ruled out the possibility of signing the Lazio midfielder Dejan Stankovic in the New Year.

The club have long been linked with the Serbia & Montenegro international and according to Moratti, a bid could be forthcoming when the transfer window reopens in January.

With Stankovic’s current deal expiring at the end of the season and with the player showing no inclination to renew his contract, Lazio recently hinted they may listen to offers for the 25-year-old.

“The matter of Stankovic?” Moratti told Telelombardia.

“These are things that will be evaluated in mid-January.”

The key to any deal may well be Lazio’s Champions Leaue situation. If they make it through to the knockout stages they may be prepared to retain the player even if that results in him leaving for nothing at the end of the season.
