Stuttgart have admitted they are interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Hugo Viana.
The Portugal international spent last season on loan at Sporting but returned to St James park for pre-season traininig.
Giovanni Trapattoni, who saw Viana at close quarters during his spell with Benfica, sees the Portuguese midfielder as a perfect replacement for the recently departed Alexander Helb.
“He is a very good and very interesting player,” he stated.
“But maybe it’s not the right time-frame right now.”
It is understood that Trapattoni has already enquired about the avilability of Viana, but his initial approach was rebuffed by Newcastle.
