Sweden coach Lars Lagerback admitted that his side rode their luck in their 1-1 draw with Argentina – a result which saw the Swedes qualify for the next stage as group winners.

“We were a little lucky today, but that is football,” said Sweden’s Lars Lagerback, one half of a coaching duo with Tommy Soderberg.

“I knew that we would have to defend very well.

“We have to thank the players today for working so hard.”

Goalscorer Anders Svensson was obviously dellighted at Sweden’s qualification.

“The is the biggest thing I’ve ever experienced as a footballer. It feels fantastic,” he said. “When I saw the ball go in I went crazy. I ran around like crazy. It was crazy.”

“Nobody expected us to get a point from the Group of Death and we have gone on and won it,” added Coventry keeper Magnus Hedman.

“We are full of confidence and we know that we can compete with and maybe beat all of the teams left in the competition.”
