Espanyol striker Raul Tamudo has been called up to the Spain squad for their Euro 2008 qualifier against Denmark on October 13.

The 29-year-old comes in to replace David Villa, who withdraw from the squad after suffering an ankle injury during Valencia’s 2-1 defeat to Espanyol at the weekend.

Tamudo, who has won nine caps and scored four goals for Spain, last represented his country in a World Cup qualifier against Serbia & Montenegro in September 2005.

“I am delighted to be returning to the national team after such a long time. I feel like a kid of 20-years-old called up for the first time,” Tamudo told a news conference.

“It (the Denmark game) will be difficult. But Spain have past the worst part now and if we win, I think the job will practically be done,” he added.

Spain play Denmark in Aarhus on Saturday and face Finland away in a friendly next week.
