Chelsea captain John Terry has admitted he was ‘flattered’ to a target for Premier League rivals Manchester City.

City boss Mark Hughes attempted to sign England centre-back but saw two summer bids turned down by the Blues.

Uncertainty remained over Terry’s future until he confirmed via a statement at the end of July that he intended to stay at Stamford Bridge.

“If I’d been tempted I’d have gone,” he said in The Sun.

“I was flattered but that was it. The bid was £28million but I don’t know what kind of figures would have been thrown at me.

“I got a call from (chief executive) Peter Kenyonand told him I was flattered but I didn’t want to leave.”
