Three-match ban for Mexes

October 14, 2008

England have never won their opening four World Cup qualifiers before, so can break the record with a win over Belarus this Wednesday?

France defender Philippe Mexes has been handed a three-match ban for insulting a referee following his sending off against Siena on Ocotber 5.

Mexes was shown two yellow cards during Roma's 1-0 defeat and according to the referee's report, the Frenchman used foul language towards match officials as he was sent off.

The centre-back will miss Roma's clash with champions Inter on Sunday as well as a trip to Udinese and a home match against Sampdoria.
