Klaus Toppmoller has agreed to sign a new three-year contract with Bayer Leverkusen, the club he led to runners-up spot in both the Bundesliga and Champions League last season.

Following last season’s success, Toppmoller had been linked with moves to coach a big European team recently, but the German finally put pen to paper on a new contract at the weekend.

“He signed at the weekend so all the speculation is definitely finished,” Bayer director Ilja Kaenzig stated.

Topppmoller was forced to sell key talents such as Ze Roberto and Michael Ballack to Bayern Munich in the summer, but his decision to remain in charge has come as a huge relief to a club fearful of a further expodus of players.
