Fernando Torres has admitted that Barcelona are the only Spanish club he would consider joining were he to leave Atletico Madrid.

The 20-year-old strikerhas been the subject of transfer speclation, with several of Europe’s leading clubs reported to be monitoring his progress.

Chelsea, Real Madrid and Milan are reported to be big admirers of his undoubted talents, while Manchester United are understood to have had a multi-million pound offer for him rejected.

Torres signed a new deal at Atletico which commits him to the club until June 2008, and set a relase fee of £60 million.

Barcalona along with Real Madrid and Chelsea, are among the clubs believesd to be interested in signning the Spanish international.

“I am very proud that Barca, given how they are sweeping the league right now, are focusing on me,” he told RAC 1.

“They are the best team in Spain and one of the best in Europe and it fills me with satisfaction that they are interested in me.

“It encourages you to keep working hard.

“My head is still with Atletico Madrid, but if one day I had to leave to go elsewhere, Barca would be the only Spanish team I would go to.

“It would be a step forward, going to the rest of the teams would be a step backwards.

“It’s clear that I’m sacrificing playing in the (UEFA) Champions League for other things by playing for Atletico Madrid.

“I still have a bit to do here. Maybe at the end of the season I will have to make the jump, but we might win the Copa del Rey and then it wouldn’t be the right moment.”
