Tottenham won this fixture 2-1 this season but Liverpool haven’t lost an opening day fixture under Rafael Benitez – who will come out on top?

Liverpool’s Fernando Torres has signed a contract extension which could keep the striker at Anfield until 2014.

The Spain striker agreed the improved deal in May, but he has now signed ahead of the Premier League opener at Tottenham on Sunday.

Manager Rafa Benitez said: “Fernando is one of the best strikers in the game and, at his age, can only get better.

“Every major side would want him in their team, but he has shown how much he wants to achieve success at Liverpool by committing his future to the club.

“He’s a special talent, but still has the hunger to improve his game.”

Torres struggled with injuries last season, but in his debut campaign in England he became the first Liverpool player since Robbie Fowler in 1995-96 to score more than 20 league goals.
