Turkey goalkeeper Volkan Demirel has been handed a two-match suspension after being sent off during his side’s Group A 3-2 victory over Czech Republic.

Demirel was shown the red card during Monday’s match after pushing Czech striker Jan Koller to the ground.

The Turkish FA was also fined £27,000 for improper conduct.

The fine related to the behaviour of their supporters, players and officials during the match.

“We had some problems with some Turkish fans trying to enter the pitch, and also the presence of about 25 unaccredited people after the game in the Turkish dressing room,” UEFA spokesman William Gaillard said.

However, Gaillard confirmed that no action could be taken against Turkey coach Fatih Terim, despite him appearing to come into contact with the fourth official after the Czechs took a 2-0 lead.

“You would need to have something in the referee’s report to note that something has occurred, he said.

“There’s nothing about the coaches.”
