Udinese dispense with Cosmi

February 10, 2006

Udinese have parted company with Serse Cosmi in the wake of Wednesday's 2-1 home defeat by Reggina.

Cosmi could see the writing on the wall after that defeat, admitting: "This season I have been permanently under discussion but it is normal for a coach to be criticised.

"I haven't been able to give the team the psychological support they need.

"In this match we lost faith after Reggina's double."

Cosmi joined Udinese last summer to replace Luciano Spalletti, who left for Roma after leading the club to qualification for the Champions League.

However, under Cosmi, Udinese failed to progress beyond the competition's group stage and they have struggled domestically this season. They are 13th in Serie A, just four points ahead of the relegation zone.

Veteran defender Nestor Sensini, 39, is expected to take over alongside former Como coach Loris Dominissini.
