UEFA president Lennart Johansson has resigned as chairman of Swedish side AIK along with the entire board following the club’s relegation.

“There are various interest groups within AIK which have been dissatisfied with our results, both sporting and financial. There is no other solution to this problem than to resign,” Johansson told newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

“We are taking responsibility for failure.”

The board opted to stand down after a meeting on Sunday.

Johansson admitted that his UEFA duties had prevented him from giving ass much time to the club as he would have liked.

“I warned right from the start that I travel a lot, but it was anyway wrong of me to accept this commission on the board,” added Johansson.
