UEFA have confirmed that Thursday’s UEFA Cup fourth round ties involving Spanish teams will go ahead despite the terrorist bombings in Madrid.

Barcelona, Mallorca, Valencia and Villarreal had requested their first leg fixtures – scheduled for Thursday evening – be postponed.

Over 170 people have been killed following the explosion of four bombs at railway stations in the Spanish capital on Thursday morning.

Barcelona led the calls for UEFA to postpone the fixtures.

“We have issued a request to UEFA this morning, as have Villarreal, Valencia and Mallorca who are all also wishing their games to be postponed,” confirmed a Barcelona spokesman.

UEFA, though, have decided that the four ties will go ahead as originally planned.Ê
