Steven Gerrard was one of two members of Liverpool’s Champions League winning team to make the annual UEFA Team of the Year.

Gerrard, along with Luis Garcia are rewarded for their contribution to Liverpool’s success, while losing finallists Milan provide three players in striker Andrii Schevchenko along with fullbacks Cafu and Paolo Maldini.

The selection was voted for by 1.5 million voters on the offical UEFA site.

Spanish champions Barcelona are well represented with World and European Player of the Year Ronaldinho being joined by teammates Carles Puyol and Samuel Eto’o.

“The voting recognised both the two best teams in Europe last season…Liverpool and Milan, as well as the two clubs that have shone in their domestic leagues in the past 12 months, Chelsea and Barcelona,” said David Farrelly, uefa.com’s editor in chief on UEFA’s website.

Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho was named coach of the side for the third successive year while two of his players, centre back John Terry and goalkeeper Petr Cech make the side.
