UEFA has asked referees to clamp down on dissent after the UEFA Referees’ Committee, discussed various refereeing issues at their annual gathering in Nyon.

Uefa has ruled that any player who waves an imaginary card in an attempt to get an opponent booked will be booked themselves.

Referees have also been encouraged to book players who crowd around the referee, and also to caution for dissent players who run towards to referee.

The directives come into immediate effect for this weekend’s Euro 2008 qualifiers.
