UEFA have revealed that they won’t be taking any action against Manchester United for fielding a weakened side against Basle in last night’s Champions League encounter between the two sides.

United drew 1-1 withthe Swiss side with what was largely a reserve eleven, including teenagers Darren Fletcher and Kieran Richardson.

There had been a suggestion that UEFA might investigate the circumstances surrounding Sir Alex Ferguson’s selection, but Europe’s governing body has confirmed that the club did nothing wrong and no action would be taken.

“As long as teams field players from their 25-man’A’ list or from the ‘B’ list of youth players born on or after 1 January 1981, the club is abiding by UEFA competition regulations and there is no problem,” stated a UEFA spokesman.
