Renzo Ulivieri has been appointed as the new coach of Torino following the sacking of Giancarlo Camolese.

Ulivieri, the former Parma, Cagliari, Napoli and Bologna coach, replaces Camolese, who paid the price for the club’s poor start to the season.

Torino lost their first four League games before a 1-0 victory over Chievo last week gave Camolese some breathing space. But a second round Italian Cup defeat by Empoli proved to be the final straw and he was sacked on Friday.

Ulivieri, who has signed a one-year contract, said: “I am extremely happy and cannot wait to get back to work on the training field.

“I’ve watched the Torino team on television and they look good, but perhaps lacking a little in confidence.”
