The battle for control of Manchester United has intensified with the news that American businessman Malcolm Glazer has increased his stake in the club to 16.31%.

Glazer’s move comes a day after the club’s biggest shareholders, Irish tycoons John Magnier and JP McManus, increased their holding to 28.89%.

Glazer, who owns American football team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, previously held a 14.31% stake in the Premier League champions.
