Valencia’s injury problems have worsened with the news that Uruguayan international winger Mario Regueiro has torn the cruciate ligament in his left knee in training.

The club said that the 28-year-old will be out of action for between six and seven months after twisting his knee.

Valencia have suffered a rash of serious injuries this season with fellow midfielder Edu suffering the same ligament tear a fortnight ago.

Eight other players are absent at the moment including leading strikers David Villa and Fernando Morientes who are doubtful for the weekend game against Recreativo.

Valencia have not won a league match in over a month and dropped to eighth in the Primera Liga following last week’s 1-0 defeat at home to Real Madrid.
