Valencia have completed the signing of Benfica full back Miguel.

The Portuguese defender has signed a five-year deal with the Primera side despite reported interest from Juventus and Newcastle.

The player had a contractual dispute with former club Benfica after he claimed that an extension he signed was not valid. The Lisbon side accepted a fee of around €8m after it was decided the deal would benefit all parties.

Valencia boss Quique Flores moved for Miguel after right back Curro Torres suffered a serious injury. Flores was pleased to have completed his side.

“This is the player that I needed for the team,” he said.

“I am very happy and just hope he can settle into the team quickly.”
