The Blues will take a 0-0 1st-leg result to Stamford Bridge as they look to overcome Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final tonight .

Marco van Basten has resigned as manager of Ajax after just one year in the job.

The former Holland coach, who made his name as a player with the club in the 80s, was unable to lead the team to their first league title since 2003-04.

“The main reason for Van Basten resigning was he concluded that he didn’t meet his goals and he doesn’t have the feeling he is capable of improving next season,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

Van Basten’s decision comes less than 24 hours after general director Rik van den Boog assured him his position was safe despite missing out on a place in next year’s UEFA Champions League.

Ajax have confirmed assistant manager John van’t Schip will take charge of first-team training, including overseeing first-team for their game against FC Twente.
