Dutch international midfielder Mark van Bommel has been tipped as the man to replace Michael Ballack at Bayern Munich.

“He is a very good player, a winner and a personality on the pitch,” Bayern coach Felix Magath said on Wednesday.

“He can lead a team, otherwise he wouldn’t be playing for both Holland and Barcelona.”

Bayern striker and an nternational colleague of van Bommel, Roy Makaay, admitted that he tried to persuade van Bommel to agree to a move to Die Bundesliga before the former PSV midfielder agreed to join Barcelona.

“I have already spoken to him about Bayern,” Makaay told SportBild.

Van Bommel joined Barca from PSV Eindhoven at the start of the season, but he has failed to secure a regular spot in the starting eleven at Camp Nou.
