Bayern Munich manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed he has turned down the chance to manage Nigeria, but has not ruled out a return to international football in the future.

“I have had an offer from Nigeria now, but I have rejected it.” he told Liga total television.

“It was not the first time I have received an offer from Nigeria, but I think that Bayern is a big challenge for me.”

Van Gaal also revealed that he would like another chance to lead a national side to the World Cup, after failing to qualify for the 2002 finals with Holland.

He added in Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung: “I think Bayern could be my final club. I would like to play a part in the World Cup, or similarly at a UEFA Euro tournament.

“I am looking forward to experiencing these tournaments.”
