Valencia midfielder Vicente believes his side will prevail when they face Liverpool in tomorrow’s Champions League clash at Anfield.

The enticing fixture sees the leaders of La Liga and the Premier League come face to face in what promises to be an epic encounter.

The Spanish champions need just a draw on Wednesday to be certain of a place in the second phasebut according to Vicente, a victory against Liverpool is the priority.

“Valencia are the favourites,”Vicente said. “We’re well placed at home and top of the league in Europe and we’ll be going all out for victory against Liverpool. We’re at the top of our form at the moment.”

Valencia outclassed Liverpool 2-0 when the sides met earlier in the season and Vicente believes that although Gerard Houllier’s side will be desperate for revenge, the Spanish champions must still be regarded as favourites.

“They’ll be out for revenge, seeing as we’re the only team to have beaten them this season,” Vicente acknowledged.

“That should make it an open game.

“It’s going to be difficult because Liverpool are in good form, as they’ve shown by going unbeaten in their league. They’re playing at a high level and they’ve got quality throughout the team. I’d put us as favourites to win, though.”
