Patrick Vieira is out of Arsenal’s Champions League game in Panathinaikos on Wednesday and may also miss Sunday’s hugely-anticipated Premier League encounter with Manchester United.

Vieira twisted his ankle in Saturday’s win over Aston Villa, and is ruled out of the trip to Greece.

“I think there’s a big problem after the way I’ve seen him limping,” admitted manager Arsene Wenger.

Edu is expected to take his place alongside Francesc Fabregas in central midfield.

Arsenal are boosted by the return of Freddie Ljungberg, but with Dennis Bergkamp not travelling and Gilberto Silva ruled out with a back injury, Wenger’s options are limited.
