Aston Villa face disciplinary action after crowd trouble marred last night’s heated derby match against Birmingham.

Villa finished the game with nine men after Dion Dublin was sent off for headbutting Robbie Savage and midfielder Joey Gudjonsson was dismissed for a wild lunge on Matthew Upson.

The dismissals provoked angry scenes with one Villa fan confronting Savage, before being led away.

FA spokesman Adrian Bevington confirmed: ‘We are already in the process of communicating with Aston Villa following events at last night’s match.

‘Obviously we are taking what happened very seriously. Our crowd safetyadvisor will be talking to the police and both clubs to ascertain further details.

‘We also deal with reports from any fixtures and we will be looking at the reports at the earliest possible time including the referee, match observer and the police.’

Afterthe match, a West Midlands Police spokesman said: ‘The behaviour of some supporters has been atrocious and put many people in danger.

‘Police inquiries will continue and we will seek to identify those not yet arrested.’
