Villarreal have signed Valencia defender Carlos Marchena on a three-year deal.

The 31-year-old Spain World Cup winner passed a medical on Sunday and will be presented at El Madrigal on Monday.

“Villarreal and Valencia have reached an agreement under which Carlos Marchena will form part of the squad for the next three seasons,” Villarreal said on their website (www.villarrealcf.es).

Marchena has spent 10 years at Valencia and during his time at the Mestalla won two La Liga titles, a Uefa Cup, a Copa del Rey and a Super Cup.

Formerly of Sevilla and Benfica, Marchena has won 62 caps for Spain and was a member of Vicente del Bosque’s World Cup-winning squad.
