Malaga have confirmed that Paulo Wanchope will face disciplinary action after his violent clash with two of the club’s fans following the defeat to Real Betis at the weekend.

The Costa Rican striker became involved in a scuffle when he approached fans he claimed had used a megaphone to shout racist abuse at him.

“We are to censure the attitude (of Wanchope) as they do not correspond with what we, the club who pay him, the fans or the media expect of him,” Malaga director general Antonio Mendoza stated.

“It was an error and we all regret it deeply.

“The footballer will be punished and will have to pay the consequences stipulated in the club’s internal rules.

“We want to make it clear that we are opposed to the insulting of players and even more so if the insults are racially motivated as it appears in this case.”
