Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed that he is close to completing a deal to sign Pascal Chimbonda from Tottenham Hotspur.

Rovers full-back Stephen Warnock is on the brink of completing a transfer to Aston Villa and Allardyce has moved quickly to bring the French defender in as a replacement.

Allardyce said: “Stephen has had permission to talk to Aston Villa and we have got Pascal Chimbonda talking here. I think we have to get a replacement before we let Stephen go so if Pascal gets done here I’m sure Stephen will get sorted out.”

Chimbonda will be offered a three-year deal at Ewood Park.

The 30-year-old’s agent, Willie McKay, told Sky Sports: “Pascal is having his medical this afternoon and we expect everything to go successfully. Talks are underway and Blackburn are offering Pascal a three-year deal with an option and we are hopeful of getting everything done very soon.”
